Request SUPPORT PLUS - efap

training sessions

Support Plus - EFAP has over 125 in-person or virtual webinar trainings on topics such as improving morale, communication skills, effective leadership, and workplace diversity. Trainings are provided by professionally trained EFAP service providers.

How it works:

  1. Department HR Contacts or authorized training coordinators review the available training topics inside the EFAP training catalogs and select training topics that will be beneficial to department managers, supervisors, and/or employees.

  2. Once training topics have been determined, have several dates and times prepared to schedule the training. An alternative/back-up date is required. HR Contacts can then submit a training request using the link at the bottom of this page.

    • Note: Each department is allocated 10 training hours at the beginning of each calendar year. Total training time varies by training topic. If the training topic scheduled is 2 hours, then there are 8 hours remaining to schedule future trainings. More hours may be accommodated based upon availability.

  3. The EFAP Training Center will send a confirmation email of the training request and further instructions closer to the scheduled training date. For webinars, forward the participation registration link to your employees ahead of the training date.

  4. Once the training is complete, please encourage attendees to fill out the participant satisfaction survey. This feedback is very important in developing and improving future trainings.

Below are a few things to consider as you prepare to submit an EFAP training request:

  1. Trainings in the Main EFAP Training Catalog should be requested at least 30 days in advance of the requested date. Trainings in the Supplemental Catalogs should be requested at least 10 days in advance of the requested date. The EFAP Training Center will do their best to accommodate requests.

  2. Only requests from the authorized EFAP HR Contact(s) from your department will be approved. Requests from non-authorized contacts will be forwarded to the authorized EFAP HR Contact(s) for approval.

  3. Select trainings that are appropriate for your departmental and employee needs and interests. If you need assistance or more information on the types of trainings that are available, contact the Support Plus – EFAP Administrator by email at Brianna.Collins@lacity.org or call (213) 978-1617.

  4. Choose several dates and times that meet your scheduling requirements. For onsite trainings, please have a room reserved for the requested training dates. Total training time is an average of 1 hour but can vary between 30 minutes to 3 hours. The duration of trainings is noted in the training catalog.

Training Session(s) Logistics:

Please include the following information in your EFAP training request:

  1. Number of attendees expected in each session — between 10 and 50 is recommended for on-site and up to 499 can attend web trainings

  2. Participants (e.g. managers, employees, other)

  3. Location of the training - onsite trainings only

  4. Department contact name, address, phone number, and email address

  5. Description of the room to be used (e.g. size, tables, etc.) - onsite trainings only

  6. Be prepared to share any relevant workplace history, incidents, or information — such as new policies or workplace changes that will be helpful to the trainer

To maximize the benefit of the training, we ask you to:

  1. Have a training space available to accommodate the expected number of participants - onsite trainings only.

  2. Have a flip chart or white board available and an overhead projector or LCD projector and laptop computer - onsite trainings only.

  3. If scheduling back-to-back sessions, build in a 10 to 15 minute break between sessions to allow time for the trainer to address any changes that may be needed and to allow any change of audience or comfort break for attendees attending multiple sessions.

For Webinars: The Support Plus - EFAP trainings will be facilitated via WebEx; however, you may elect to use your own webinar platform, if preferred. Webinar recordings are available upon request on the WebEx platform only. You are not permitted to record EFAP trainings when electing your own web platform. Please request the recording at the time of submitting the online EFAP training request.
